Serving Our Communities

Fundamental to Davenport University’s vision is instilling in students an appreciation for civic responsibility in the communities where they live and work. As part of this effort, DU provides many service-focused, community-based opportunities to serve for students, as well as for faculty and staff.

• In the last year, Davenport reported 24,338 hours of community service
• DU students, faculty and staff served nearly 270 community partners, from 4H and Headstart to various public schools and civic organizations.
• Ongoing University-sponsored opportunities include:
• • Faculty and staff involvement with Junior Achievement projects and programs
  • Semi-annual Red Cross blood drives
  • Annual United Way campaign 

DU Cares

Each year since the early 1980s, Davenport University has selected a community organization that we support with financial donations, volunteer activities, service-learning projects, and education about the organization’s mission. Recently this program was expanded to include all DU locations.

Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center strives to provide Davenport University students at all locations with opportunities to serve their community to expand and enrich their social and educational experiences, and challenge them to be committed to a life of community service with an understanding of social responsibility.

Last year’s Volunteer Center projects included work with area organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, REACH Headstart, United Way Adopt-a-Family, Relay for Life and more.

The Volunteer Center also participates in such ongoing programs as Volunteer Alliance, Michigan Service Scholars Program and the Athletic Reading Program. For the past two years, Alternative Spring Break has focused on assisting with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in Gulfport, Mississippi.
