Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Pre-Licensure

Davenport University's BSN - Pre-Licensure program is designed for those who have chosen to pursue a career as a professional nurse, including high school graduates, students who have completed general education requirements in Health Studies and those with a bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited institution.

The bachelor's degree nursing program at Davenport University provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to function in the role of professional nurse, including:

The BSN Pre-Licensure program is offered in the Grand Rapids, Midland and Warren campuses.

Admission Requirements

Program seats are limited and entry is competitive based on: 

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Two completed professional recommendation forms
  • Personal essay
  • Any one of the following assessments: Nursing TEAS, ACT or SAT (within last 10 years) or HESI (within last two years)

Students who meet admissions criteria will be provisionally admitted to the program pending completion of the criminal background check and drug screen components of HLTH101, to be completed during the first semester of study. Minimum test scores will not be established until application packets are evaluated.

Transfer Credit (internal or external)

Equivalency requirements for transfer science courses:

  • Lab component included
  • Completed within the last five years
  • Earned grade of C+ (2.3) or better

Transfer students may take any remaining general education requirements, not fulfilled by transfer credit, concurrent with the nursing program courses.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Pre-Licensure

Bachelor of Science - 123 credits

This program is designed for high school graduates, students who have completed general education requirements in Health Studies, as well as students who possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited institution who have chosen to pursue a career as a professional nurse. The purpose of the bachelor’s degree nursing program at Davenport University is to prepare the graduate with the skill and knowledge necessary to function in the role of the professional nurse through the use of critical thinking, advanced assessment skills, communication, collaborating practices, applied research, self-directed learning, leadership and management skills, systems thinking, and professional development. This program prepares graduates for nursing practice of patients and their support systems across the continuum of care and in communities. Program seats are limited and entry is competitive. Students are admitted to the program based on their cumulative GPA (ACT score for high school graduate applicants), letters of professional recommendation, and a personal essay. Students who meet admissions criteria will be provisionally admitted to the program pending completion of the Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Drug Screen (DS) components of HLTH 101 (to be completed during the first semester of study).
