For paper writing, Davenport University uses APA style, based on the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) which came out on July 2009. Davenport University Libraries have copies of the Publication Manual and the smaller Concise Rules of APA Style from APA.

APA Guide from DU's Dept of English & Communications

DU's Department of English & Communications has provided APA Documentation Style: A Brief Overview (June 2012) for Davenport classes with sample title pages, sample references and explanations. Also, they have provided a PowerPoint Student Guide to APA 6th edition.

DU provides free access to NoodleTools, a web-based source list/bibliography composer that walks you through the creation of citations in APA style.

APA "not so helpful" help

Microsoft Word Professional 2010 and some of the databases have begun formatting citations in APA style, databases at the end of their articles and Word 2010 by filling in a box. They are often not correct, but have been improving slowly. You will not want to rely entirely on the citations provided by the database. They may be a good starting point, but you should verify with NoodleTools or the APA Publication Manual that your citation is correct.

In addition, EndNote bibliographic software does not follow all APA guidelines, and so it is not recommended for Davenport students.
