Davenport University Students set record at state conference - Feb. 16, 2012
Davenport University students earned 26 first place awards at the 40th annual Business Professionals of America (BPA) Post-Secondary State Leadership Conference, creating a new record for victories by one university at the state competition. Fifty-five students from Davenport’s Grand Rapids, Holland and Kalamazoo campuses competed in 48 events at the competition, held at Northwood University in Midland on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.
Saginaw Students to attend Professional Development Day at Davenport University - Feb. 14, 2012
More than 500 area high school students and nearly 150 community volunteers will participate in a Professional Development Day hosted by Saginaw Career Complex and Davenport University on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 7 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Davenport University Alum to share "Secrets of Success" - Feb. 13, 2012
Davenport University is proud to host author Ken Fortier as he discusses his new book, NetPlus Connections, on Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Peter C. Cook Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Fortier will speak about his radical new approach to networking and share pointers from his new book. This program is the first in Davenport’s new “Secrets of Success” speaker series. The event is free and open to the public.

Davenport University will present the 2012 Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business (EIB) Award to well-known community leaders and philanthropists David and Carol Van Andel. The annual fundraising gala will be held at Devos Place on Friday, May 11, 2012, with a reception at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Tom Izzo, head coach of men's basketball at Michigan State University.
Davenport University to Host Great Michigan Read's "We Don't Want Them" Exhibit - Dec. 1, 2011
Davenport University is proud to host the traveling exhibit, "We Don't Want Them," supplementing the Great Michigan Read programing centered on Kevin Boyle's "Arc of Justice." This interactive exhibit focuses on issues of housing segregation and discrimination in Detroit, MI throughout the 1900's and will be displayed in the library at Davenport University's W.A. Lettinga Campus Dec. 2 - 15, with the grand opening reception at 11 a.m. on Dec. 2.
Davenport University hires Insurance Education Scholar - Nov. 30, 2011
Davenport University is proud to announce that Michael R. Hubbel has been appointed the Adjunct Risk Managment and insurance scholar through the Robert P. Ashlock Adjunct Professorship grant from the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation. The award, a result of the competitive annual program, is funding the delivery of Risk Managment and Insurance education courses.

Davenport University to host Acts of Courage event - Oct. 18, 2011
Davenport University is proud to sponsor "Acts of Courage" featuring Jaime Martinez, in partnership with the local Committee to Honor Cesar E. Chavez, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month - a celebration of the independence of Latin American countries and their contributions in North America. Davenport University, which has served West Michigan since it first opened its doors in downtown Grand Rapids in 1866, is proud to announce it will name its new downtown location for the late Peter C. Cook, a devoted alumnus, supporter and champion of the University.
Davenport University designated Military Friendly School - Sept. 13, 2011
For the second consecutive year, Davenport University has been awarded the designation of a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs. The 2012 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students. G.I. Jobs carefully chooses each school on the list after considering reviews by current veteran students at universities across the country.
Davenport University Proposes New Life for Blighted Downtown Site - Aug. 31, 2011

Pappas today joined Lansing Mayor, Virg Bernero and Patricia Baines-Lake, Executive Director of the Lansing Housing Commission (LHC), to announce an exciting new initiative, that if successful, will result in the construction of a new campus for DU in the heart of downtown Lansing.
Media Tours of Davenport's New Downtown Center - June 6, 2011
Davenport University, which has served the Grand Rapids community since 1866, is proud to announce it will open its new Downtown Center for its graduate programs at 45 Ottawa Ave. NW this fall. Media tours of the newly remodeled building will be available on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 2:15 p.m. with Dr. Richard Pappas, President of Davenport University. He will be available to comment on the center and its importance to the university and to graduate program students.

DU and Detroit Public Schools Strike Articulation Agreement - May 13, 2011
Detroit Public Schools has reached an articulation agreement with Davenport University in which students who complete Michigan’s high school graduation requirements will be able to receive up to 23 general education credits toward their Davenport University degree. Students would be able to continue studies with Davenport this fall at any of its campuses, including those in Warren and Livonia, or online.

Helen Hunt Announced as New Keynote Speaker at Excellence in Business Dinner Gala - April 29, 2011
Davenport University is proud to announce Academy and Emmy award-winning actress Helen Hunt as its new keynote speaker for the 2011 Excellence in Business Dinner Gala. The previously announced keynote speaker, Diane Keaton, is unfortunately unable to participate. James P. Hackett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Steelcase, Inc., will be presented the 2011 Peter C. Cook Excellence in Business (EIB) Award at this year’s event.

New Dean for School of Health Professions Hired - April 25, 2011
Following a thorough national search, Davenport University has named Karen M. Daley, Ph.D., R.N., to the position of Dean of the School of Health Professions. She will begin in her new role on June 21, 2011. Previously, Daley was Master of Science Graduate Coordinator in the Nursing Department at Western Connecticut State University.

Davenport University Announces Strategic Initiatives - March 17, 2011
Based on extensive market research and analysis of trends and data, Davenport University announced strategic changes to position it for continued growth within the markets it serves in Michigan. In addition to a previously announced downtown center in Grand Rapids offering MBA programs and corporate training, the University is planning to renovate or construct new campus facilities in Lansing, expand nursing labs in Midland and Saginaw, and launch new academic programs at nearly every campus. Based on market potential, Alma, Caro and Gaylord campuses will close in May of 2012.

DU to sponsor huge New Years Eve party in Grand Rapids - Dec. 10, 2010
Davenport University is the main stage sponsor again this year for the New Year’s Eve event in downtown Grand Rapids that draws more than 30,000 people each year. The annual Hot New Year’s Eve Party is held outdoors in Rosa Park Circle and features popular bands and the traditional midnight ball drop. Alumni, current students, faculty, staff and friends of Davenport are all invited to this exciting event.

DU loses devoted alumnus, supporter and champion with passing of Peter C. Cook - Nov. 29, 2010
Davenport University has lost a devoted alumnus, supporter and champion with the death of Peter C. Cook on Nov. 28 at the age of 96. Peter was honored with numerous awards for community involvement, volunteerism and philanthropic support. He was preceded in death by his wife Pat, and is survived by sons Thomas and Stephen, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
