Meet the Staff

The Office of Alumni & Development staff serves Davenport University by serving you. We look forward to meeting you and sharing the opportunities for you to become more involved in the present and future of Davenport – its students and its success!

Contact Peg:

Peg Luy
Executive Vice President for Alumni & Development

Peg brings considerable professional experience to her role at Davenport University, including leadership of all aspects of a dynamic alumni & development program, during her tenure as Vice President for Alumni and Development at Millikin University in Decatur, IL. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Millikin and has completed graduate work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Extending her leadership beyond Milllikin, Peg is a member of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the National Council on Planned Giving, and has served on the boards of numerous community and professional organizations. She is delighted to be a part of the West Michigan community and looks forward to meeting Davenport's many wonderful alumni and friends across Michigan, the nation and the world in the months ahead. She is inspired by Davenport University's Vision 2015 and is excited about working with all those persons associated with the Davenport community to develop the resources so that our students Get Where the World is Going!

Contact Louise:

Louise Kidd
Executive Director of Leadership Gifts and Donor Services 

Louise serves as Executive Director of Leadership Gifts and Donor Services. She brings to Davenport thirty years of experience in administration and management and in these roles has raised significant contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations. She served eight years as the executive director of a local community arts agency and nineteen years in higher education advancement work at Millikin University in Decatur, IL. She was a founding director and president of a state arts advocacy agency in Illinois, founding member of the Decatur Choral Society and served on a number of community boards in central Illinois. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University. Western Michigan is home now, and she looks forward to continuing her commitment of service to the Davenport and Grand Rapids area community.

Michele Davis
Executive Director of Grant Development 

Michele serves as Executive Director of Grant Development at Davenport University. She is responsible for identifying and pursuing grants from government, foundation, corporate and other non-profit entities. Prior to joining Davenport University, Michele spent more than five years as the Senior Grant Writer for Corporate and Foundation Relations at Kent State University. In addition, she spent nearly ten years in workforce development, fund raising and grant writing for a local non-profit agency as well as one year for a Fortune 500 company. While at Kent State, she co-chaired the Institutional Advancement Diversity Action Council and the University-wide 100 Commitments Diversity Initiative. Michele holds a bachelor's degree in English and Economics and has studied Cultural Anthropology. While at Davenport University, she will serve as the Alumni & Development Office representative for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.

Jason P. Madden '08
Executive Director of Alumni & Development

Jason has been with Davenport for almost nine years – serving in the Alumni & Development Office for the past six. He received his Master in Business Administration from DU in 2008 and has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Davenport as both a student and an employee. He shares his passion with DU alums and works every day to enrich the lives of DU students through his outreach. He and his wife, Jennifer, currently reside in East Grand Rapids.

Nick Glaser
Director of Major Gifts

Nick serves as the Director of Major Gifts at Davenport University. He came from Olivet College where he most recently served as the Director of Annual Giving, and before that, he worked for the Office of Enrollment Management as an Admissions Representative.  Nick holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Olivet College and MBA in Management from Central
Michigan University.



Contact Sarah:

Sarah Mitchell
Director of Prospect Research and Stewardship 

Sarah serves as the Director of Prospect Research and Stewardship. She is passionate about non-profit development and comes to Davenport with experience in program development and support, including a year spent developing the Hands On Great Buffalo program in New York as an AmeriCorps VISTA.

Contact Erik:

Erik Dane '07
Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Events

Erik serves as the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Events. He rejoins the Panthers after working with Grand Valley State University in the Conference and Event Planning Department. A Davenport alumni himself, Erik spent seven years with Davenport in various event planning capacities. With over 11 years of event planning experience, he strives for events that consistently exceed the specified goals and create lasting positive guest experiences. Erik holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management and graduated with his MBA in Strategic Management from Davenport University in 2007. He looks forward to working with fellow Davenport alum throughout the state.

Sara Mooney '09
Assistant Director of Alumni Communications and Development 

Sara Mooney recently joined Davenport University as the Assistant Director of Alumni Communications and Development. Sara comes to us from Van Andel Institute, where as an intern in 2008 established the grassroots fundraising program ‘Purple Community,’ which empowers individuals to raise awareness and money for cancer and Parkinson’s disease research. The program has become Van Andel Institute’s premiere fundraising platform with more than 300 participants and has raised more than one and a half million dollars. Sara holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Sports Management from DU and is pursuing her Masters of Education. She was also awarded the 2014 Davenport University Outstanding Young Alumni award.

Courtney Sorrell
Assistant Director of Annual Giving

Courtney Sorrell joined Davenport University as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving in October 2015. Courtney comes to us from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, where she served in Annual Giving, developing multi-channel annual giving plans for NMC and the Dennos Museum Center. Courtney implemented and grew the inaugural annual giving society at NMC, the President's Club. Courtney holds a bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Communications from Miami University.

Laura Macka
Manager of Data Systems & Gift Processing

Laura has joined the Alumni and Development staff in her role as the Manager of Data Systems & Gift Processing.  Before joining our team, Laura worked in education as a Middle School teacher and in Adult Education as well.  Most recently she served as the Membership Manager at John Ball Zoo where she gained experience in maintaining donor records and data systems using Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge.

Mary Nelsen
Executive Administrative Assistant

Mary has been with Davenport University for almost 10 years, serving in the Alumni and Development Office for the past 1-1/2 years.  She has an Associate Degree in Business and has over 25 years of experience as an Administrative Assistant.  Her and her husband, Rick, currently reside in Byron Center.
