Sigma Beta Delta

To facilitate business learning and academic achievement for students in all business disciplines.

Davenport University’s Chapter of the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society will lay a foundation for its members to meet and surpass professional career goals while encouraging personal success and promoting personal improvement through academic and community fellowship.

Sigma Beta Delta is the international honor society for students in business, management, and administration at the baccalaureate and graduate degree level. This honor society was created in 1994 to provide an opportunity for schools of business to recognize students who have demonstrated scholastic excellence in their business studies.  The society espouses the principles of wisdom, honor, and pursuit of meaningful aspirations.

What do the symbols--Sigma, Beta, and Delta--represent?

  • Honor cord at graduation
  • Lifetime Recognition for Outstanding Academic Achievements
Sigma Beta Delta membership provides recognition for a lifetime. Include it on your resume.
  • Fellowship Program
The Society awards $1,000 fellowships annually to assist seven outstanding student members in continuing their education.
  • Networking Opportunities
As members graduate and assume important positions in the business community, they provide excellent sources of help and guidance for future employment. Network with business professionals places you a step ahead of the competition.
  • Lifetime Contact Through Aspirations Newsletter
The Society publishes aspirations annually which keeps the membership informed of Sigma Beta Delta's activities and current business issues.

Sigma Beta Delta (SBD) Inductees attending formal induction at DU will receive an honor cord, lapel pin and certificate of membership. If you do not attend the formal induction ceremony, your certificate will be mailed to you without the cord and pin (as these items damage your certificate upon shipping).

If you are planning on participating in commencement, but could not attend the formal induction ceremony, you may pick up your lapel pin and cord on the day of commencement.

If you misplace your cord after attending the induction, you will not be provided a replacement at commencement. Also, the Sigma Beta Delta website features a SBD Stole. You are not able to order this stole nor may it be worn at commencement as the graduating students have their own DU issued stoles to be worn at the commencement ceremony.

If you would like more details concerning DU commencement, check out this website.

Acceptance into Sigma Beta Delta is by invitation only to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelors or masters major
  • Upper 20% in class rank
  • Completion of at least one-half of the degree program
  • 3.5 GPA minimum
  • Two Faculty Recommendations
