Seminars for Electricians
Corporate Services offers training seminars for electricians in the Grand Rapids area. Seminars include:
- Journeyman and Master Electrician Exam Prep Course (24-hours) This 24-hour course is for apprentice and journeyman electricians seeking to advance to the next level in their careers. The course will help you prepare for the journeyman or master electrician certification exams. It will include the following topic areas:
- Introduction – getting started; how to work with the NEC book; tables, formulas and Article 310
- Math Refresher – Ohm's law, decimals, formulas and drawings
- NEC Code Book – Code book tips and methods; the logic of the NEC Code book's layout; discussions on overcurrent, tap rules, wiring methods, grounding, branch circuits and more
- Motor Calculations – in depth coverage of Article 430; how to size motor branch circuits, overloads, overcurrent protection and more.
- Test Taking 101 – tips on taking tests; explanation of the layout of test for journeymen and master electricians.
The Journeyman and Master Electrician Exam Prep course meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:15pm to 9:15pm, for 6 weeks. Participants must bring a copy of the current NEC book with tabs.
Fall 2006 dates: September 13, 21, 27; October 4, 11, 18 (Note: The Fall 2006 class meets on Wednesday evenings with the exception of Thursday,
September 21)
Winter 2007 dates: February 7, 14, 21; March 7, 14, 21 (note: class will not meet February 28 due to Davenport's spring break)
Cost: $285 per person.

- NEC Update course (15-hours) Davenport University offers the state-mandated 15-hour NEC® Update course. Classes will cover the changes to the NEC® and is required for Journeyman and Master license renewals. Davenport University does not currently have any NEC Update courses scheduled. NEC Update classes will not be scheduled until the 2005 NEC is adopted by the State of Michigan.
