Prior to becoming a full-time educator, T.J. worked in health information management for Mercy Health Partners, ProMedica Health System, and Sparrow Health System. His experience in the field includes positions as coding specialist, ambulatory records and release of information manager, coding manager, enterprise master patient index manager, and department director.
T.J. is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and an Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). He is currently president of the Mid-Michigan Health Information Management Association. T.J. has presented at the AHIMA Assembly on Education national conference, as well as state and regional continuing education seminars. He is a member of the International Federation of Health Information Management Associations (IFHIMA), AHIMA, MHIMA, and Mid-MHIMA.
T.J.'s research interests include leadership in the HIM field, global applications in HIM, supervisory/first level management, and entrepreneurship. At Davenport University he is a member of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) and previously coached football with Addison Community Schools and Owosso Youth Tackle Football, and wrestling with Tecumseh Community Education Youth Wrestling.
T.J. covers HIM programs at Lansing, Flint, Saginaw, Alma, and Caro.
He will be completing a doctorate degree in Global Leadership at Indiana Tech in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 2012.
