Police and Public Safety Operational Efficiency Academy

Every Police and law enforcement agency in Michigan is experiencing reduced operational funding due to the economic environment.  Demand for services continues to increase at a time when state and local governments point to reduced tax revenues and mandate expense reductions.  Challenged to ‘do more with less’, new thinking is required to enable organizations to identify and implement solutions for efficient operations.

The Public Safety and Security Management Operational Efficiency Academy, led by seasoned Michigan law enforcement leaders provides a practical and immediately applicable model which will result in measurable and cost effective improvements for every agency.  Learning from case studies and leading practices, each participant will develop an action plan for immediate implementation upon their return from the Academy.

Learning Outcomes:

Gain day-to-day meaning of efficiency-led management concepts and the applicability to law enforcement agency operations.

Develop fluency with systematic methods to audit and assess current processes within the department, highlighting those for priority improvement.

Understand the importance of gathering information and data related to human capital, equipment, buildings and energy, develop approach to ongoing information collection for implementation upon class completion.

Develop a working knowledge of operational efficiency based best practices drawn from similar operations throughout the State of Michigan.

Examine and critique traditional methods for scheduling and deployment, evaluating and justifying improvement recommendations.

Develop an individualized action plan suitable for review with department leadership upon return from the Academy, targeting immediate, near term and mid range improvements, rationale and cost justification.
