How Can Students Get Involved in Experiential Learning?

Academic Service Learning & Business & Industry Projects

ASL and Business & Industry Projects are embedded in academic courses.  Students should look for the following course designations on the Davenport course schedule and/or ask their professors early in the course if experiential learning is required or optional in the course:

HUMN 101: Arts & Culture--SL (Academic Service Learning)

  • Indicates that the course section will include an academic service learning project

SOSC 201: Diversity in Society--EL (Experiential Learning)

  • Indicates that the course will include an experiential learning project

Internships

Students should consult their academic advisor to check for eligibility for an internship [1] and also review the appropriate Internship Guidebook for their academic program to check for processes, deadlines, and requirements.

Prior Learning Assessment

Students should consult their advisor for information on PLA and also review the Credit for Prior Learning [2] website for details on credit for experience options.

Study Abroad

Students should contact the Study Abroad and International Programs Office [3] for details on Study Abroad.

National Service Opportunities

Students can learn about opportunities to get involved with national service programs by visiting the AmeriCorps [4] website.
