The student assistance program offers you focused services such as important and useful information about mental and physical health topics, debt and budget management, legal advice and community connections. We want to spark your interest in topics that matter. And maybe you'll reflect a little bit about what you've learned. Staying Healthy: WellConnect Counseling Services
Balancing the demands of work, school and life can be challenging, and there are times when you may need help to manage these often competing demands. The issues that come up as you navigate through life's complexities can impede your ability to accomplish academic, professional, and personal goals. Davenport's WellConnect program offers services that are designed to help students work through these issues as they arise.
Why Access Counseling:
You can utilize WellConnect counseling services to address any need or concern with which you may be dealing. Students have utilized the WellConnect counseling services to address the following issues:
- Adjusting to the demands of college
- Feelings of Panic or Anxiety, school related or otherwise
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Family Problems
- Compulsive or Distracting Behavior
- Marital/Relationship Issues
- Stress or Academic Difficulty
- Substance Abuse
The WellConnect Counseling Experience
When you are feeling overwhelmed, it can be difficult to pick up the phone and start something new — even if it means you will be getting the help you need. WellConnect offers in-the-moment support, as well as giving you the option to meet with someone face-to-face to discuss your concerns. When you call the Davenport University WellConnect line (1-855-DU-HELPS) you will talk with a knowledgeable and experienced clinician who can help connect you to the resources you need.
How to access In-the-Moment Support:
The DU WellConnect line (1-855-DU-HELPS) is staffed 24/7/365 with master's level clinicians who are available for in-the-moment telephonic support and direction. Davenport students can call the WellConnect line at any time to talk with a counselor. During the initial call, the WellConnect counselor will help you to work through your concerns. After the initial consultation, you will be offered a referral for up to four sessions of face-to-face or telephonic counseling with a dedicated clinician. If you want face-to-face counseling, WellConnect will connect you with a provider convenient to your home or work.
Bouncing Back: New Parent Transition Program
The New Parent Transition Program, is designed to provide new, veteran, and expecting parents with the tools, resources, and live support to help balance home and work life. The program is designed to help parents organize their daily expectations, create new routines, and manage all of the responsibilities that come with being parents.
Starting the New Parent Transition Program:
Before you begin the telephonic coaching sessions, you will receive a binder with resources and tools, including:
- Personal Assessment Survey
- Outlines of each session
- Tip sheets
- Activity templates and tools
- Parenting book and relevant articles
The Personal Assessment Survey is a tool designed to gather basic information about you. Your coach may refer to it throughout the sessions, and it will allow you to add details and information as you expand your understanding of your own everyday life and needs as parents.
After receiving the informational binder, you will schedule three, one-hour telephonic sessions with a doctorate level family psychologist.
Money Matters: WellConnect Budget and Debt Consultation Services
For students who are struggling with financial issues, or who are simply seeking to better manage their finances, Davenport University's WellConnect program offers extensive budget and debt consultation services. This program will connect you with a trained and certified financial counselor to help you address your fiscal concerns.
Getting Started with the Debt Management Program:
You can access Budget and Debt Consultation services by contacting WellConnect (1-855-DU-HELPS) and asking for budget and debt assistance. You can expect to be connected immediately to a professionally trained and certified financial counselor who will:
- Help you evaluate your current financial situation
- Provide a detailed review of income, assets and expenses.
- Provide personalized options based on your goals, which may include social service referrals, educational materials and resources and/or enrollment in a Debt Management Program
Working with a Debt Management Counselor
If the Debt Management Program sounds like the right resource for you, you will be assigned a dedicated Debt Management Counselor, who will work with you to achieve lower interest rates and monthly payments. Together, you will work to achieve one convenient consolidated monthly payment , and an increased capacity to get out of debt quickly.
Legal Consultation Services
Legal issues can seem overwhelming, particularly for those students who are working to balance the competing demands of school, family and work. To help alleviate the anxiety that often surrounds legal issues, the WellConnect Program offers students comprehensive Legal Consultation Services.
Getting Started with Legal Care
To get started, call your dedicated WellConnect line (1-855-DU-HELPS) and explain that you are calling to receive legal counseling.
You will receive a call within the next business day from an attorney, and you are entitled to up to 30 minutes of legal counseling free of charge. You can use this service multiple times!
Why Students Access Legal Counseling
Davenport University Students can utilize the Legal Consultation service to address the following issues:

Help is Just around the Corner
When you call the WellConnect line (1-855-DU-HELPS), you can ask to be connected with a community referral specialist, who gathers information relevant to your specific needs.
Once the initial evaluation is complete, the community referral specialist begins the process of contacting and connecting with community resources to check for vacancies, availability, pricing, etc.
You will be sent a comprehensive packet with all of the information about resources that are available in your community and that fit your unique needs. You will be connected only with resources that have vacancies and availability, and you will get recommendations from the referral specialist as to which resources are best suited to accommodate your needs.
