The Department of Education defines "verification" as a process where your school confirms the data reported on your FAFSA. Federal regulations provide Davenport University both the authority and the responsibility to contact you for documentation that supports income and other information that you reported. Schools are required to verify students that have been selected prior to disbursing aid.
If you have been selected for verification, you will be notified by the U.S. Department of Education on your Student Aid Report (SAR) and/or by Davenport University. Please respond to all requests for documentation as quickly as possible to prevent delays in the awarding of your financial aid.

TAX FILERS SELECTED FOR VERIFICATION
Applicants (students, spouses and parents) who have filed a federal income tax return are required to verify income and other information using one of the following methods:
1. IRS Data Retrieval (DRT) process. Applicants can use this process when filing the FAFSA on the Web or after filing via Correction on the Web, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Allow two weeks for tax return information to be available if you filed your taxes electronically, or eight weeks if you filed your taxes via a paper return.
Applicants unable to use the IRS DRT process include those who: filed with a status of married, filing separately; filed an amended tax return; filed as married but with a head of household status; have changed marital status since filing the federal income tax return; filed a Puerto Rican or foreign income tax return. These applicants must provide a tax transcript if selected for verification.
2. IRS tax return transcript. If you are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval process, but you filed a federal income tax return, you must contact the IRS to request a tax transcript. Call 1-800-908-9946 and follow the voice prompts, or visit the IRS online at www.irs.gov . Click on the Tools menu, then select “Order a Transcript". Allow five to ten days to receive it via US mail. The tax transcript is free.
Please note: Due to a change in federal regulations, Davenport can no longer accept a paper tax return for verification in most situations.
ROLLOVERS: If an applicant has reported an IRA rollover on his or her federal tax return, this information should be brought to the attention of the Financial Aid Counselor.
NON-TAX FILERS SELECTED FOR VERIFICATION
