Secure Your Future: Bachelor of Science (BS),
Security and Information Assurance (SIA)
Companies today require the highest levels of security in their technology environments. A Davenport bachelor's degree in Security and Information Assurance can provide you with the knowledge and skills you need for an upwardly mobile career path in the field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), those working in this booming industry can earn, on average, between $60,000 and $100,000 annually, depending on experience levels.
This hands-on program will prepare you to work in the technology security field in a variety of settings across the world. Our curriculum also prepares you for the CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Linux certification exams. For the most specialized education possible, we also offer three majors for those in the BS program:
- Biometric Security
- Information and Computer Security
- Digital Forensics
Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE)

In June 2011, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognized Davenport University as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE). The goal of this program is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in Information Assurance (IA) and produce a growing number of professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines. This formal designation followed a rigorous review and evaluation against stringent criteria, demonstrating Davenport University’s commitment to academic excellence in IA education.
In-Demand Careers
Technological security is increasingly under attack as cyber-crime in the workplace continues to grow. With this growth, the BLS reports that the number of jobs in the SIA industry is expected to increase by 22% by 2020. As a computer security specialist, you will be qualified to plan, coordinate and maintain the information security for a company or organization. You could be hired to do this in a variety of roles, including:
- Biometric Application Developer
- Computer Security Administrator/Architect
- Identity Intelligence Analyst
- Biometric Consultant/Integrator
- Information Systems Security Manager
- Software Development Engineer
- Regional Security Incident Response Coordinator
