eBooks FAQ

How do I access my eBook and MyLab for online classes?

Links to your online textbook and other materials will be automatically loaded into the Blackboard course.  It is ESSENTIAL that you login to your Blackboard class to access these materials on Day 1 of the course.  If your course uses an online interactive learning lab (like MyMathLab) you’ll need to complete a browser tune-up to ensure you can access all course resources.  Please complete the browser tune up BEFORE your class starts.  You may need to download a compatible browser, update plug-ins, etc.  Help desk contact information and links to this browser tune up are located in your Bb class.  Make sure you have a headset/ microphone available as well, since you may be required to use audio.  Students in COMM120 must also have a digital video recorder available for recording and then uploading videos of speeches.

There will be no need for you to purchase textbooks or wait for them to be delivered.  You do NOT need to buy anything from the DU bookstore or online bookstore.

How do I pay for the eBook and MyLab for the online classes listed above?

The fee for the eBooks will be charged as a course fee and included on your tuition billing statement. In order to provide this access to all students enrolled in these courses from Day 1 of the term, the course fee will be charged on your tuition billing statement.

As with other course fees, you cannot opt out of the course fee since it represents an important component of your learning in the class.  Also, as with other course fees, your financial aid may be applied to these charges. Please note that these course fees are subject to the policies on course fees outlined in the DU course catalog.  If you drop the course before the class starts then the e-book charge would also be removed.  However, if you withdraw after the course start date, the e-book charge is not refunded.  All course fees, including charges for the eBooks and MyLabs are listed in the current course catalog

Again, you do NOT have to purchase texts from MBS for these classes.  You will have access to the electronic versions of all required texts through your Blackboard class as soon as you have access to your online class.   If you would still like to purchase a hard copy textbook to supplement these online resources, you are welcome to do so.

Who do I contact for technical help with my eBook or MyLab?

Information on Mylab technology specifications

To make sure you are able to use your MyLab effectively in class, you must:

1.      Check to ensure you are using a supported browser—each MyLab has slightly different technical specifications.  Scroll down and find your MyLab on the list below then download and install the appropriate browser.

2.     Complete the browser tune-up to make sure you have all the required plug-ins installed and up to date.

3.     Adjust browser settings as needed to allow pop-ups and cookies from these sites.  If you need help adjusting browser settings, contact Pearson MyLab Technical support directly for individual assistance.

The list below details the browsers supported by each MyLab.

MyMathLab Supported Browsers

In most courses, you can use recent versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari to work in your course. Be sure to complete the browser check first!  Some Internet providers, such as AOL, offer their own proprietary browsers, which are not compatible with MyMathLab. To work in your course, you must minimize the proprietary browser and open a standard browser supported for your course.

MyCompLab Supported Browsers (for English courses)

To work in MyCompLab, your computer must meet at least the 56 Kps (kilobits per second) connection speed. MyCompLab uses technology that requires the use of specific browsers. The following operating systems and browsers are supported:

MacOS

The use of other browsers, particularly Google Chrome and Safari 4.0 and higher, will likely result in known issues in the Composing space.  If you are unsure which browser you are using, use the browser tune-up.
