Designed for professionals who wish to improve operations in their organizations, the 12-week Certificate of Integrated Operations Management examines proven techniques to maximize efficiency, reduce risk and improve quality. All of this is accomplished through an approach that allows students to apply the techniques and tools practiced in the classroom to his/her profession immediately. Participants must come prepared with a project topic related to his/her business.

Earning a certificate in Integrated Operations Management from Davenport University helps professionals develop solutions for challenges in scheduling, sourcing, logistics quality control, technology implementation and more.  This program incorporates operations, project management and quality management for designing and managing effective business operations. 

Completion of this program results in a Certificate from Davenport University and 9 credits for: MGMT357 Operations Management, MGMT412 Quality Management, and GPMT287 Principles of Project Management toward an undergraduate degree at Davenport University or 3 credits for MGMT757 Operations and Supply Chain Management toward a graduate degree at Davenport University.

The Employer-Driven Project

All participants will be required to complete an operations improvement plan project.  The project is driven by the operations needs of the organization employing the participant. The employer-driven project requires the development of an operations/process improvement plan to support advanced operational performance within an organization. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the role of operations management, operations planning, and value chain in business 
  • Identify ways to improve operations strategy and the measurement of performance 
  • Utilize selection and analysis techniques to identify process design for goods and services
  • Understand the various technology used in operations management
  • Utilize project selection and strategy techniques to identify project scope 
  • Improve skills in project estimating, scheduling, budgeting, costing, and resource management
  • Analyze the framework of quality and performance excellence
  • Utilize tools and techniques for quality management improvement
  • Recognize Quality Systems and Standards; ISO 9,000, Six Sigma
  • Develop strategies to implement supply chain concepts, lean concepts, and sustainability into your organization
  • Explore the concept of quality in supplier and customer relationships (SCM, CRM)
  • Identify processes for inventory management and capacity planning to more efficiently utilize resources

About the Facilitator

Dr. Frank Novakowski, Ph.D.
Associate Dean, Maine College of Business

Dr. Frank Novakowski Bio

Dr. Novakowski serves as the associate dean for undergraduate management and marketing degree programs in the Maine College of Business at Davenport University. He was the 2016 recipient of the Tyrus R. Wessell award, Davenport's most prestigious honor recognizing exemplary commitment to the University’s Cultural Values and positive impact on the lives of DU students. Prior to joining Davenport, he held senior management positions in marketing, sales, manufacturing and general management primarily in the contract office furniture and retail store fixtures industries.

In addition to designing, developing and implementing new degree programs and courses, he is also responsible for the overall quality, improvement, and effectiveness of DU’s existing BBA degrees in Marketing and Management. During the course of the year, he teaches both undergraduate and graduate strategic management, leadership, and international business courses. As a strong proponent of international business and cultural studies, he developed and conducts a unique three week, faculty-led study abroad program to Germany and surrounding countries which has been conducted each year since 2006.
