At Davenport University you get to explore what college is all about. Whether starting off your journey as a freshman or nearing that final destination as a senior, we are excited you checked in at DU.

College is a scary thought, right? At Davenport, it’s easy and we’ve mapped out how!

Check out the guidelines below in each high school year to create an itinerary for the college trip ahead of you!

Use this guide to navigate your journey to college.

 

Freshman year:

  • Athlete – Research NAIA/NCAA eligibility
  • Take advantage of summer opportunities to learn about different career fields
  • Participate in school activities and volunteer efforts
  • Start off strong! Your GPA can impact your chances of admissions and the scholarship money you receive

 

Sophomore year:

  • Continue research on career fields and college possibilities
  • Take the PSAT!
  • Experience a job shadow in the career field you have in mind
  • Create a resume and add honors, awards, and volunteer experience
  • Maintain good grades – they matter!
  • Start saving – ask your parents about a savings plan for college expenses
  • Attend college and career fairs – ask questions!

 

Junior Year:

  • Consider dual enrollment to earn early credit
  • Review and take courses for articulation credit with your college of choice
  • Explore adding AP or IB courses to earn credit
  • Take the time to search for scholarship opportunities! They will benefit you in college
  • Prep, study, & do awesome on the SAT or ACT!
  • Athletes – Create NAIA/NCAA eligibility profile
  • Research colleges & meet with college reps
  • Explore and tour colleges and universities to get a feel for the campus life

 

Senior Year:

FALL

  • Retake SAT or ACT  – many people score higher on the 2nd attempt
  • Apply to DU!
  • Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) starting October 1st

    • Visit DU and experience our campus
    • Watch for early scholarship deadlines – high value scholarships may require early application
    • Athletes – Set up recruiting visits with coaches
    • Consider adding early credit options for your next semester

 

WINTER/SPRING

  • Apply for on-campus housing — it might fill up!
    • Register for housing here!
    • Review financial aid award offers. Contact DU to review awards and prepare a cost estimate
    • Inform every college of your decision to accept or decline the offer of admission by May 1st
    • Register for new student orientation
      • Check out dates and registration here!
      • Take any AP/IB exams. Plan for test-out exams at your college.
      • Send final transcripts after graduation including any early credit courses earned
