Aleta Pillai has served as a nursing instructor and Associate Department Chair of Nursing currently at the Lansing campus. In this role Aleta is responsible for implementation of the nursing curriculum and oversees all course at the Lansing campus. Aleta also assists in hiring, evaluation, and management of all faculty and course assignments with the nursing department. Part of Aleta’s role is to mentor new faculty, as well as ensure consistent quality delivery of the nursing curriculum. Aleta is also an instructor in the BSN program teaching both in-seat classes as well as is credentialed in online delivery modalities. As a local nursing campus leader Aleta is responsible for the local nursing budget, and ensures proper allocation of resources for the department. Aleta also engages with campus and university partners working collaboratively on local campus initiatives including programs that assist in increasing university student enrollment and retention.
Aleta Pillai has been a registered nurse since 1996, and has a varied nursing background including long term care, acute care in the areas of medical surgical nursing and orthopedics, and home care. Aleta also has a background in utilization and quality review through her experience with a large physician\'s group in assisting doctors in managing their resources and monitoring their patients’ access/use of the healthcare system.
Aleta presented her dissertation research at the 2015 19th Annual Midwest Regional Nurse Educators Conference at the University of Missouri. Conference content fit nicely with Aleta’s dissertation in which she sought to determine student readiness to transition from school to practice through a generational lens, leading her to begin a peer-to-peer mentoring program on the Lansing campus.
