Dr. Nelson joined Davenport University in June, 2013 as the founding chair of the Occupational Therapy program. She received her professional practice degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Since that time, she has worked in both clinical and academic settings and brings over 20 years of experience in higher education to Davenport University. Dr. Nelson is active in professional organizations and currently serves as a reviewer for both the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and for the American Occupational Therapy Association annual conferences.

Dr. Nelson, whose area of clinical expertise is neonatal practice, is nationally recognized for her contributions to the field. In April 2006, she was honored with the AOTA Roster of Fellows award. The Roster of Fellows award recognizes members of the American Occupational Therapy Association who have made significant contributions to the continuing education and professional development of members of the Association. The award was given for: “Promoting, Pediatric Practice, Education, and Research”
