Melissa Lewis has been an Associate Professor of English at the Holland campus for four years. Her areas of focus include active and experiential learning particularly in the online classroom.
Ms. Lewis writes poems, essays, and reviews for professional publication. Her work has appeared in Alehouse Press, Switched-On Gutenberg, The November 3rd Club, and Pearl. She also serves as an editor for the Davenport literary journal, The Panther\'s Paw.
Ms. Lewis\'s philosophy of teaching can be summed up by stating \"students need to feel safe and encouraged in the classroom to explore new ideas, practices, and behaviors that give them the opportunity to grow. As educators, it\'s our job to provide that, and therefore our job to continually seek new lessons and activities that foster that learning environment.\"
