With an expertise in both strategic management and organizational behavior, Marjolijn van der Velde is Associate Professor of Management. As full-time faculty, she teaches management courses at the graduate level in our Executive MBA, MBA, and MM programs and also at the undergraduate level in our BBA General Business, International Business, and Management programs. She also serves as the Program Director for the European Business and Culture short term faculty-led study abroad program (commonly known as EuroBiz).
Dr. van der Velde has a varied business background in the financial services and non-profit industry sectors. She held several management positions in both branch administration and operations at Old Kent Bank (now 5/3 Bank) and founded and was lead principal of The Holland Group, a market research company serving the financial services industry. As the Director of Research for the Chicago-based Bank Administration Institute, the financial services industry’s global partner for information and intelligence; she managed the research staff and also served as conference proceedings editor. Prior to transitioning to her current faculty role, Dr. van der Velde served in administrative roles at Davenport including Department Chair for Management and Department Coordinator for the MBA program.
Dr. van der Velde has authored twenty-two professional articles, twenty research monographs, and seven peer-reviewed articles/conference proceedings. She is a frequent speaker at both national and international academic and industry meetings. Her research interests include the organizational processes of culture and structure along with data-driven decision-making. She is a Certified Manager (CM) through the Institute of Certified Professional Managers and holds professional memberships in the Academy of Management, the Midwest Academy of Management, the World Affairs Council of West Michigan, and the West Michigan Trade Association.
