Professor Pitts has taught at Davenport University for 21 years in the areas of human resources, leadership, marketing, and sports management. During his tenure with the university, Pitts has served as the Director of the Hospitality Program, an Assistant Professor of Marketing and Management, and most recently as an Associate Professor of Sport Management.

Professor Pitts serves as the DU faculty athletic representative to the NAIA and serves on the Council of Faculty Athletic Representatives for the NAIA. Pitts has been instrumental in the transitional process from NAIA to NCAA and has developed and delivered the educational resources for athletic compliance. Pitts has served for 18-years as the co-advisor for Collegiate DECA, a marketing-management association which helps students apply classroom knowledge to real-world experiences. In his effort to support experiential learning opportunities at DU, Pitts has served as the director for the London-Paris-Barcelona study abroad program for the past 10 years. Pitts also serves as an Association Membership and Marketing Committee Member on the Michigan Statewide Sport Management Conference Association (MSSMA), chairs the compliance committee at Davenport University and serves on the athletic advisory boards for sport management and intercollegiate athletics. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Pitts is highly involved with compliance and athletic administration at Davenport University.

Prior to teaching, Professor Pitts spent 18 years in the hospitality industry where he served in various managerial and leadership positions including food and beverage director, director of sales and marketing, and general manager. Pitts worked for Marriott, Holiday Inn, and General Mills corporations, and was instrumental in the initiation of operations with all three organizations.
