E-LEARNING SUPPORT INFORMATION

Blackboard Learning Management System

Davenport IPEx uses Blackboard learning management system (LMS). Blackboard is a robust environment allowing participants to access course materials and interact in real time with fellow participants and facilitators through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra as well as asynchronously through written assignments and postings in discussion boards. Participants will always be provided specific access instruction for their unique experience. The information here should give you extra help in making the most of your Blackboard experience.

Blackboard Course Access

Participants will be provided a unique log in and password information prior to starting a course. Participants will log in to Blackboard by visiting davenport.blackboard.com. Participants are encouraged to log in and explore Blackboard as this is the virtual classroom for the course. Primary areas of interest once logged in will be Announcements, Course Materials, and Discussion Boards. Specific courses may use other areas including Assignments, Grades, Collaborate Ultra and more. If you cannot log in to your course, refer to your introduction communication.

Blackboard Discussion Boards

Blackboard Discussion Boards allow participants to respond to postings from the class facilitator and plus read and comment on other student responses. Accessing the discussion boards requires you to log in to your classroom and then select “Discussion Boards” from the menu bar on the left side of the course. Your facilitator will direct you to the folder/forum that is relevant for you. Once you find the pertinent posting, you simply hit “reply” as you would in an email and you can type or paste in the text box your comments. You may have the flexibility to start a new thread/discussion depending on how your facilitator organizes your class. Discussion Boards can be accessed 7 days a week 24 hours a day.

Blackboard Collaborate - The Ultra Experience

Blackboard Collaborate is a real-time video conferencing tool that lets you add files, share applications, and use a virtual whiteboard to interact. Collaborate Ultra experience opens right in your browser, so you don't have to install any software to join a session. There are two typical methods for joining a Collaborate Ultra experience. First, you may be sent a “guest link” to access the session. Second, you may access the session from within the Blackboard course environment if you are already using that environment for your course. Participants would select Tools from the menu bar on the left side of the course and then choose Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. Your facilitator will direct you accordingly based on your course design.

How to test your system for Collaborate Ultra

  • Collaborate Ultra works best in the Chrome Browser. To install Chrome, visit Google's Chrome Download page.
