SOURCE Program Registration

The SOURCE is a not-for-profit employee support organization designed to help employees keep their jobs, receive training to enhance their employment, and help employees move into better positions within or across companies. This is accomplished through utilization of the best resources of the government, area non-profits, and private employers.

The SOURCE has partnered with Davenport University's Institute for Professional Excellence (IPEx) to offer the 2011 Leadership Essentials employee training opportunities from May through September 2011.

Module 1: How to Teach a New Job (Tues. May 17 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. May 19 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)

One important task for leaders is making sure that all employees have the skill knowledge, and attitudes needed to be successful.   The focus of this program is to provide employees who have training responsibilities the tools needed to deliver task oriented training.

Module 2 – First Time Supervisor (Tues. May 24 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. May 26 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)

First time supervisors have to look at situations from a new angle, interact with people at different levels and deal with the awkward nature of being at a different level than their previous co-workers.  This session addresses these issues to prepare a person to enter the world of supervision with more confidence and authority.

Module 3 – Diversity & Inclusion (Tues. June 7 - 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM or Thurs. June 9 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)

To celebrate and encourage diversity is to appreciate and respect individual differences. This session explores the benefits and challenges of valuing diversity in the workplace. It helps attendees to identify their own values and beliefs about people who are different from them and shows them a model for improving workplace relationships.

Module 4 – Problem Solving through an Effective Meeting Format (Tues. June 21 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. June 23 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)This session will teach participants how to organize and conduct problem solving meetings using effective facilitation skills.

Module 5 – Motivating Employees (Thurs. July 21 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. July 21 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)Managing and leading are about getting things done through people.  The difference between what employees can do and will do depends a lot on their level of motivation.  Understanding what motivates employees is the foundation of this course.  The end result is learning how to turn compliance into commitment.

Module 6 – Conflict Resolution with Effective Communication (Tues. July 26 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. July 28 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)Knowing why conflict occurs and what to do about it are indispensable components to a healthy and efficient business.  The course provides a basis for successful conflict resolution by examining the theory of conflict resolution and providing the participant with the skills necessary to identify and manage conflict.

Module 7 – Business Ethics (Tues. August 16 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. August 18 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)This course explores applied ethics, focusing on professional situations in business.  Participants will learn ethical theory as they examine the complexities of ethical dilemmas, compare and contrast ethical and moral systems and apply creative and critical thinking to ethical dilemmas involving professional decisions.

Module 8 – Presentation Skills (Tues. August 30 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. September 1 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)This course is specifically designed for managers, supervisors and team leads who use formal and/or informal presentations to communicate with their internal and/or external customers. Learners will develop effective presentation skills that increase credibility, aid in retention of the message and motivate the receiver to take the desired action.  The skills developed also result in projecting more confidence (polish) in everyday communications.

Module 9 – Gaining Mastery of Your Time (Tues. September 13 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or Thurs. September 15 - 3:00 - 7:00 PM)Losing track of time and getting buried under deadlines and work can hinder the efficiency of an individual  organization. Proper time management is indispensable to employees’ productivity.  This session will help learners understand and commit to better time management habits.
