Davenport Students Shine at the 2016 BPA Nationals!
Business Professionals of America held its 50th National Leadership Conference in Boston, Massachusetts from May 4 thru May 8, 2016. Students from Davenport’s Lettinga and Lansing campuses represented the University at the Golden Anniversary Conference where Davenport’s ambassadors earned 17 national championships, 12 runner-up finishes, and 13 third place finishes! Overall, the University placed 82 finalists in the top ten. Over the last eight years, Davenport students’ have earned 1st place awards in 100 National events, which is an all-time BPA record!
There were numerous highlights for Davenport students at the conference. Chris Lammers was a triple national champion clinching the top spot in Network Administration, Computer Security, and Computer Networking! Chris also successfully defended his championship title from last year in Network Administration. Kenneth VandenBout was a double champion, claiming the top spot in both Contemporary Issues and Interview Skills. Davenport’s Financial Analyst Team (James Brach, Dara Carr, Randi Koogler, and Adam Vance) kept the winning streak alive in the Financial Analyst Team event by bringing home the national championship title for the second year in a row and Daniel Hawkins successfully defended his championship title in the Computer Programming Concepts event. Davenport University swept both the Computer Programming Concepts and Contemporary Issues competitions, claiming the top 3 positions in both events!
During the conference, Deb Kiss, the Accounting and Finance Department Chair, was honored with a 30 year service award for her dedication and service as an adviser for Business Professionals of America.
The following Davenport students captured a national championship this year in Boston: Adam Vance (Management, Marketing & Human Resources), Aidan Fairman (Visual Basic/C# Programming), Beth Steimel (Integrated Office Applications), Charissa Elmer (Business Meeting Management Concepts), Christopher Lammers (Network Administration Using Microsoft, Computer Security, and Computer Network Technology), Corwin Tobias (Presentation Management-Individual), Daniel Hawkins (Computer Programming Concepts), Gavin Stewart (Information Technology Concepts), Jonathan Gaydos (Fundamentals of Web Design), Hannah Smith (Advanced College Accounting), Kenneth VandenBout (Interview Skills and Contemporary Issues), Luke Grzybowski (Legal Office Procedures), Rebecca Bosch (Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications), and Team Koogler: James Brach, Dara Carr, Randi Koogler, and Adam Vance (Financial Analyst Team).
