Matt Miller

Executive Director Of Public Safety and Risk Management

Matt has been with Davenport University since October 2002 and has served in a number of capacities both within Public Safety and Risk Management.  Matt began his career at DU as the day shift officer at our Fulton Street Location before being transferred to the Warren location in August of 2006 to oversee Public Safety operations for the campuses on the east side of the state.  August 2008 Matt was promoted to Executive Director of Public Safety and provided departmental leadership over statewide operations.  In February 2013 Matt was again promoted to Executive Director of Risk Management at which time he relinquished his leadership role within Public Safety for several years until September 2015 when he was tasked with serving as department leader as Executive Director of Public Safety and Risk Management.  Matt also serves as the University’s Senior Title IX Administrator and Clery Act Administrator.

Matt attended Moody Bible Institute where he earned a BA in Biblical Studies and served as a Public Safety officer and Shift Supervisor.  While employed at Davenport University Matt has attended Grand Rapids Community College where he completed his Police Academy training taking night and weekend classes and finishing in the top 5 of his class while serving as Assistant Squad Leader.  In addition Matt earned his MBA from Davenport University through their Executive MBA program.  Matt is currently attending Western Michigan University Cooley Law School where he is a Juris Doctor Candidate. 

In addition to this formal education Matt has attended the Executive Development Training Institute through the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, is trained in basic and advanced REID interviewing technique, and certified in incident management, active shooter response instructor, and Title IX investigator and coordinator duties, Clery Act administration, PPCT, and CPR/First Aid Instructor. 

Matt has served for a number of years on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in various capacities, most recently as President.  Currently, Matt is a Trustee for the Michigan Independent Colleges and Universities Workers' Compensation Fund.

Matt is married with three children.  In his free time he enjoys reading, shooting sports, biking and hiking with his family, and volunteering at his local church.

 

 

Mark Ewing

Public Safety Manager: Lettinga, Broodmoor

Mark began working for Davenport University in July of 2011 as a Public Safety Officer at our campus in Lansing. Mark transferred to the W.A. Lettinga campus in April of 2012 and assumed his current role in July of 2013. Mark is responsible for the Public Safety operations at our W.A. Lettinga Campus, the Peter C. Cook Center, and our other satellite locations throughout the Grand Rapids area.

Prior to working at Davenport University, Mark worked for a contact security firm for over 4 years. There he held various positions including Security Officer, Lead Security Officer, and Security Supervisor. Mark specialized in providing security for transportation operations, and supervised a team of officers at a mass transit center. Additionally, Mark supervised a security team serving an athletic/entertainment facility with crowds in excess of 12000 people. Mark is trained in the incident command system, crowd management, and is certified in the REID Interview and Interrogation Technique. Mark also serves as one of Davenport University’s RAD instructors.

In his free time, Mark volunteers with Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. In addition to mentoring teenagers in the cadet program, Mark is a trained aircrew member for their search and rescue operations.

 

 

 

Christopher Schoenberg

Chris Schoenberg has been at Davenport University since May 2012. He began as a Public Safety Officer assigned to the Lansing Campus, and assumed his current role in July of 2013. Chris is responsible for the Public Safety operations at the Lansing, Holland, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Flint, Warren, Midland, Saginaw, and Livonia campuses.

Prior to coming to Davenport, Chris worked for a contract security firm. There, Chris served a variety of clients, including Davenport University. Chris also served 4 years as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist in the US Air Force. He was stationed in Minot, ND where he maintained the ACM and ALCM nuclear cruise missiles, as well as the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles. Chris earned many awards during his military service, including; Basic Training Honor Graduate, Tech School Distinguished Graduate, Senior Airman Below the Zone, and multiple recognitions for outstanding performance during Inspections and Exercises. Chris is pursuing a Finance degree at Davenport and brings with him a 3.5 GPA and Associates Degree from Lansing Community College.

Terry Feichtenbiner

Public Safety Officer

Terry Feichtenbiner has been a Public Safety Officer at Davenport University since January 2014. Prior to being hired by Davenport, Terry worked for a contract security firm, servicing the Lansing Campus.

Terry attended Ferris State University and served with the Michigan Army National Guard. Terry completed an apprenticeship program at General Motors for the Sheet Metal Die Maker Trade,  and also worked for GM in computer maintenance management and as an Emergency Response Team Assistant Chief. He has held positions with the Sports Car Club of America’s West Michigan Region, including that of Emergency Services Chief.

Terry is married, with two grown sons. He enjoys working on modern firearms, automobile racing and watching ice hockey.

Kim Hartuniewicz

Public Safety Officer

Kim began working for Davenport University in Nov of 2013 and is assigned to the afternoon shift. Kim brings with her 17 years of experience as a certified police officer. She started her career with the East Lansing Police Department before transferring to the Grand Rapids Police Department. While with Grand Rapids, Kim served in a variety of roles including a tour as a K9 handler.

Kim holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Grand Rapids Community College. Additionally, Kim is certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, Pressure Points and Control Tactics, Hostage Negotiation, Firearms, and the training of military/police dogs.

In her free time, Kim enjoys hunting, fishing, and touring Michigan Vineyards. She also volunteers for Paws With A Cause. 

 

 

Rob Hollemans

Public Safety Officer

Rob Hollemans has been a Public Safety Officer with Davenport University since June 2012 at the Lettinga Campus. He is a certified instructor in Pressure Points and Control Tactics (PPCT) and Raqpe and Aggression Defense (RAD). 
 
Prior to joining Davenport University, Rob worked at Spectrum Health for 28 years with their security team holding positions of Officer, K-9 Officer, Security Police Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant.
 
Rob is married and has four children. He enjoys family vacations, wine tasting with his wife and friends and is an avid sports fan. 
 

 

 

Ronald S. Ortega

Public Safety Officer

Ron is a Public Safety Officer with Davenport University, His varied career includes; Law Enforcement;  Security Supervision; Safety Coordinator; Loss Prevention Management; Executive Protection; Director of Safety & Security. & Management of multi-functional work teams.

Ron received his formal education at the Grand Valley State University in the Criminal Justice and Occupational Safety & Health Management Disciplines.; and received his Security Specialist Certification from Grand Rapids Community College.  Ron also served as a Security Curriculum Consultant for Baker College.

As a true practitioner, Ron believes in hard work, he motivates himself and those around him to do their best.  He strives to be a positive role model who is dedicated to his work.  Ron maintains high standards for himself as well as those he works with, always quietly providing the necessary support to help his peers succeed. 

 

 

 

Jackie Martinez

Public Safety Officer

Jackie began working for DU as a part-time Public Safety Officer at the Holland location in June 2014. In January 2015, Jackie transferred to the W.A. Lettinga campus to work as a full-time Public Safety Officer. Jackie is a graduate of the Grand Rapids Community College Police Academy and holds her degree in Criminal Justice and her certification in Law Enforcement. Jackie spent time during her schooling as an intern with the Zeeland Police Department. 

 

During her free time, Jackie enjoys playing and watching hockey and is an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan. Jackie also likes playing baseball, traveling, kayaking, golfing, and fishing.

Andrew Roman

Public Safety Officer

Andrew has been a Public Safety Officer at the Warren campus since March 2013.  Prior to joining Davenport, Andrew had worked in the security industry for a number of years, affording him the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks and gain a wealth of knowledge.  Andrew is a graduate of Schoolcraft College and Northwood University.  Outside of work, Andrew likes to spend time with his family and also enjoys running, disc golfing and other outdoor activities.  

 

 

Brandon Byrd

Public Safety Officer

 

Brandon graduated from a Wayne County Community College district with an Associate of Applied Science degree in law enforcement in 2012. He has worked for numerous private sector  security firms that strengthened and honed his skills in the security industry. Brandon also joined the auxiliary unit with the City of Inkster's police department. While working as an auxiliary officer he was also employed as an alarm responder for Guardian Alarm Corp.  In November of 2015 Brandon was hired full-time at Davenport University as a Public Safety Officer.

Aaron Rodden

Public Safety Officer

Aaron Rodden started working for Davenport as a contract security officer in June 2013. He was hired in November 2014 to be the night shift officer directly for Davenport University's Public Safety Department. He is currently in college and working on his BS in criminal justice with a concentration in criminal psychology. He has served his community and country in many capacities and continues to do so.

He plans on furthering his education in law enforcement and as a medical first responder. He currently is also employed for Securitas as an industrial emergency first responder, responding to fires, medical emergencies and hazmat incidents. He enjoys spending time with his Wife Laci, two children, and his German Shepherd Guinevere. He enjoys being outdoors or out in the community doing something for a cause.
