ACCUPLACER

ACCUPLACER® is a comprehensive battery of tests designed to provide information about a student's English, reading, mathematics, and computer skills. Tests within the ACCUPLACER System are delivered over the Internet and assist with determining if students are prepared for college-level courses or if they would benefit from developmental courses.

ACCUPLACER Sentence Skills

The Sentence Skills test measures a student's understanding of sentence structure, i.e., how sentences are put together and what makes a sentence complete and clear. There are three content areas measured on this test: Recognizing Complete Sentences, Coordination and Subordination, and Clear Sentence Logic. Each student receives 20 Sentence Skills items.

ACCUPLACER Reading

The Reading Comprehension test measures a student’s ability to understand what he or she has read.  There are four content areas on this test: Identifying Main Ideas; Direct Statements and Secondary or Supporting Ideas, Inferences, and Applications. Examinees are presented with a series of 20 questions.

ACCUPLACER Mathematics

The Arithmetic test, comprised of 17 questions, measures your ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and to solve problems that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts. There are three types of Arithmetic questions: Operations with whole numbers and fractions, Operations with decimals and percentages, and Applications and problem solving. 

The Elementary Algebra test measures a student’s ability to perform basic algebraic operations and to solve problems that involve elementary algebraic concepts. Three content areas are measured with this test: Integers and Rational numbers, Algebraic Expressions and Equations, Inequalities and Word Problems. Examinees are presented 12 questions on this test.

The College-Level Math test measures students’ ability to solve problems that involve college-level mathematics concepts. There are six content areas measured on this test: Algebraic Operations, Solutions of Equations and Inequalities, Coordinate Geometry, Applications and Other Algebra Topics, Functions, and Trigonometry. There are 20 questions on this test.

Registration

Davenport Students and Candidates:

Your Admissions Representative will register you for the ACCUPLACER exam.  

Non-Davenport Students and Candidates needing exam for other Universities:

Please see the Non-DU Registration here.

Retake Rule:

DU students make take any sub-test or the complete test 2 times per calendar year.

ID on the Day of Testing: 

Candidate must bring one form of picture identification such as a passport, a state issued driver's license, a state issued ID card, a student ID or an employee ID.  Candidates will not be tested if they fail to present appropriate ID.

Testing Center Policies and Procedures:

Personal Items – Personal items will not be accessible to candidates during their testing session.

Prohibited Items – All personal items including cellular phones, computers and other/any electronic devices, bags, purses, wallets, coats, hats (all non-religious), briefcases, watches, books, notes and all other personal possessions. These items may be left in a car or placed in a secure area designated by DU staff.   Cell phones are strictly prohibited.  No Exceptions.
