Health Services Administration Bachelor of Science
The Health Services Administration Program has been in existence since 1994. Since the academic year 1998-99, 846 students have graduated with a bachelors’ degree in Health Services Administration. The Health Services Administration program prepares students for entry-level management positions in various healthcare settings or organizations. Health services administration careers can include working in integrated healthcare systems, retirement and long term care facilities, physicians’ practices, community health organizations, health care associations and insurance carriers-third party administrators. Specialties are designed to assist students needing or desiring a more focused area of interest. This degree prepares individuals interested in pursuing Davenport University’s MBA program. Credits for previous Allied Health course work or an associate’s degree with an Allied Health credential (i.e., Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant) that are not the exact equivalent of Davenport University courses may be awarded, following consultation with the Associate Dean of Allied Health.

Health Services Administration Program Mission Statement
In support of the mission of Davenport University, the mission of the Health Services Administration Bachelor of Science Program is to prepare healthcare providers and individuals with knowledge and competencies to function as managers and administrators in healthcare environments.
The Health Services Administration Program will provide students an environment which:

Health Services Administration Program Value Statement

This program requires a 120 hour practicum.
The Program Objectives for the Health Services Administration Program are:
- Prepare healthcare professionals who demonstrate knowledge of administrative and managerial theories and practices
- Prepare healthcare professionals who demonstrate the ability to evaluate various issues related to government regulations, public policy and safety, risk management and quality initiatives.
- Prepare healthcare professionals who demonstrate the understanding of human resource management, staff training and development, community program development, and marketing.
In order to meet the Program Objectives, students are assessed throughout the program on their abilities to meet the following Program Learning Outcomes:
- Identify an understanding of managerial functions related to an organization’s operations.
- Evaluate and critique policies and procedures to determine organizational compliance with accrediting bodies and government laws and regulations.
- Assess financial and budgetary information utilizing current principles.
- Recommend processes and practices related to human resource management and quality performance management.
- Interpret and apply legal and ethical principles across the healthcare continuum.
- Identify competencies relating to diverse cultures and recognize healthcare disparities of communities.
Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen Policy:
All students in the Davenport University College of Health Professions (the "COHP") are required to submit to criminal background check and drug screening (collectively, the "Testing") at the time of declaring a major in the COHP. The results of the Testing (the "Results"), which shall remain confidential, shall be used by the COHP to approve or disapprove of a Student for enrollment or continued enrollment in the COHP, and/or eligibility for training programs, clinical or practicum. The Testing shall be completed by registering for the appropriate course and completing the entire testing process in the course. Each student is responsible for acknowledging and explaining positive Result(s) after completing the process. A student will be dismissed from the COHP if he or she refuses to consent to the Testing. The cost of the Testing is the part of the course fee and is the responsibility of the student.
