PMP® Certification Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply for and sit for the PMP® exam, candidates must meet one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:
Option 1: With a Four-Year Degree
- A four-year bachelor's degree (or global equivalent)
- 36 months (3 years) of experience leading projects within the last 8 years
- 35 contact hours of formal project management education/training (or hold a current CAPM® certification)
Option 2: Without a Four-Year Degree
- A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree, or global equivalent)
- 60 months (5 years) of experience leading projects within the last 8 years
- 35 contact hours of formal project management education/training (or hold a current CAPM® certification)
Important Note: Project experience must involve leading and directing projects, and hours from overlapping projects cannot be double-counted. The 35 hours of education can be fulfilled through this PMI-authorized course.
