How is SAP checked?

  • Financial Aid checks all student records at the end of each semester for compliance with the Standards of Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Accountability starts with your Davenport entry date.

Making the Grade

Students are meeting SAP requirements if they have:

  • Cumulative GPA at or above 2.00 for undergraduate students and 3.00 for graduate students.
  • Pace at or above 67%, (percentage of credit hours successfully completed versus the hours attempted).

Student Warning Process

Students will receive a warning the first semester you fall below one or both of the SAP standards.  If a student receives a warning, they should contact their advisor to explore options for improving their academic progress.

Need to Appeal

If a student is below standards for a second semester, the student's financial aid awards are canceled. Students have the opportunity to appeal based upon mitigating circumstances.  These circumstances include, but are not limited to, significant health issue, family emergency, or some other major life event.

The student's appeal should include the following items:

  1. The reason why the student failed to meet the SAP standards(s) AND.
  2. What has changed in the student's situation so that he or she will now be able to meet standards AND
  3. Supporting documentation

The materially complete appeal must be submitted by the start of session two in order to be considered for the current semester.  All appeals received after that date will be considered for the subsequent semester.  The appeal should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of session two, to the allow the appeals committee time to review the appeal and request additional documents if necessary.  Please refer to the academic calendar for semester and session start dates.

If you would like to appeal please submit the required SAP appeal form to the Financial Aid Office.

Probation/Academic Plan

If an appeal is granted and financial aid is reinstated, the student will receive aid on either a Probation or Academic Plan status. A student on Probation is required to regain SAP standing by the end of the probationary semester; the terms of the probation will be included in the notice forwarded to the student when the appeal is granted.

If a student cannot regain SAP standing by the end of one semester, the student will be placed on Academic Plan status. The terms of the Academic Plan will be included in the notice sent to the student when the appeal is granted, and will generally include 100% completion (no Ws or Fs) and a specified minimum semester GPA. The Academic Plan is structured to assist the student in regaining SAP status by a projected point in time not to exceed the Maximum Timeframe.

Terminated

If students fail to meet the terms of their probation or academic plan, they are no longer eligible to receive financial aid at Davenport University. Students have a final opportunity to appeal based upon mitigating circumstances.  These circumstances include, but are not limited to, significant health issue, family emergency, or some other major life event.

The student's termination appeal should include the following items:

  1. The reason why the student failed to meet the SAP standards(s) AND.
  2. What has changed in the student's situation so that he or she will now be able to meet standards AND
  3. Supporting documentation

SAP appeals need to be submitted to the Financial Aid Office.

Appeals

Students will generally be limited to two appeals during the course of their education at Davenport, regardless of the reason or other circumstance. If a student regains SAP status, he or she regains the ability to submit up to two appeals. A third appeal may be permitted for students who have stopped out for a minimum of three years.

Final

If the student is on a second Academic Plan and fails to meet the terms of the plan, they are no longer eligible to receive financial aid at Davenport University.  If the student wishes to continue enrollment at Davenport, they must contact the Bursar's Office to establish a payment plan without the use of financial aid.

Maximum Timeframe

All students who receive financial aid must complete their program within 150 percent of the normal program length, as measured in semester credit hours. If they exceed the maximum time frame, they are subject to the loss of financial aid. If you are notified that you have exceeded the maximum timeframe, you should contact your financial aid counselor.

If you would like to appeal please submit the required SAP Max Timeframe form to the Financial Aid Office.
